Meet the team at Smile Care Latrobe!
Dr Michael Spiteri
Heading the team at Smile Care Latrobe is Director and Principal, Dr Michael Spiteri. Michael started his career in 2014 in Sydney. He became the sole owner of the Latrobe practice in October 2022. He enjoys the diversity and challenge of surgical procedures such as extractions, wisdom teeth or otherwise, as well as bringing a beautiful smile back through dental implants and cosmetic dentistry.
Michael has an easy manner and is quick to put his patients at ease maintaining a trusting and lifelong doctor/patient relationship.
In Michael’s spare time, he enjoys relaxing with his wife and friends and his two dogs.
Dr Shane Leong
Dr Shane Leong started with us in January 2023 moving from Queensland to join us. He has become very popular with his patients and has proved his worth to the practice.
Shane is finding his interest in Implants along with Root Canal Therapy, Crowns and Bridgework, and enjoys educating patients on preventative dentistry.
He enjoys keeping fit with his dog and eating out at different cafes and restaurants with his partner.
Dr Paul Greham
Paul studied Dentistry at the University of Liverpool in the UK and graduated in 2004. Since then, he has worked in various places around the world, and he has been a local Dentist here in Tasmania since 2011.
Paul has a special affinity for treating nervous and anxious patients and he is a truly kind and caring Dentist who takes immense pride in all areas of his work. He practices Holistic Dentistry, and he really enjoys treating complicated cases.
Paul has additional experience and expertise in the areas of Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology as he has spent over 10 years working in hospitals.
Outside of work, Paul enjoys spending time outdoors and socialising with his friends and family.
Dr Caroline Gehlhaar
Dr Caroline was born and bred in England, qualifying at Manchester University. She worked in London and did a stint at Manchester Children’s Hospital beforemaking the move down under in 2012.
Since moving to Australia she has worked in several practices from The Capricorn Coast to Northern NSW and most recently on the Gold Coast. She has now settled in Tasmania and has a special affinity to make patients feel at ease and she especially enjoys her appointments with children and those that are a little nervous.
When she’s not at work Caroline likes baking, exploring the outdoors, or a having weekend away with her partner and daughters.
Raelene
Qualified Dental Assistant
Raelene is our Senior Dental Assistant and comes with over 30 years experience. Most days she is assisting Michael in the surgery and together they make even the most anxious of patients feel at ease.
Raelene has a caring nature and is always going out of her way to ensure every patient is well looked after and cared for, both within the practice and out of it.
In Raelene’s down time, she enjoys baking and gardening and buying shoes…..lots of shoes!
Lacey
Qualified Dental Assistant
Lacey started and finished her Dental Assistant traineeship with us. Impressively, she completed each assessment first time with flying colours, and finished in the shortest time of all Smile Care trainees in the last 20 years. She has comfortably become part of the Smile Care team and can easily build rapport with any patient.
She continues to expand her learning of all aspects of working within a dental practice and we’ve yet to find her weakness! With her fondness of the job she is on track to be one of the best!
Lacey enjoys the company of her partner, friends and family and looking after her cat Louie.
Catherine
Qualified Dental Assistant
Catherine, also known as “Cat” started with us as a Trainee Dental Assistant in 2020 and became fully qualified in 2021. Cat has a desire to be a dental lab technician so can often be found doing and learning as much as she can in our lab. She always maintains a professional and friendly manner and is a valued member of the Smile team.
Cat is a great multi-tasker and can easily step into any team member’s shoes if and when needed.
In her spare time, she enjoys being on her hobby farm with her husband, daughter and their many animals which include, goats, rabbits, cows, chickens, turkeys and a Whippet called Fergus.
Isabel
Qualified Dental Assistant
Isabel, more commonly known as “Bel” originally started as a trainee in our Burnie practice and decided to join our Latrobe practice in July 2024. Fully qualified since 2022, she is knowledgeable in all aspects of the role. She particularly enjoys taking care of her patients every need and ensuring they are comfortable during their treatment.
In her spare time, Bel likes to explore Tasmania’s wilderness going camping and 4×4 driving on weekends with her partner and dog Maycie.
Kellie
Sterilisation Nurse and Lab Technician
Kellie is the practice sterilisation nurse and is always ready to jump in and help where and when necessary.
With Kellie in charge of cleaning and sterilising instruments, you can rest assured that all of our equipment and premises are kept clean and sterile. Also, with a background of customer service, she can turn her hand to reception or taking phone calls.
However, we have learnt that it is not wise to leave chocolate lying around where Kellie can find it! Kellie enjoys exploring the outdoors with her husband and children.
Megan
Receptionist
Megan started with our practice in 2021 and comes from a background of customer service both in health insurance and reception in a busy veterinary practice.
Her caring and fun nature, along with her years of experience dealing with sensitive issues help put patients as ease as they wait in our lovely reception area.
Megan loves cooking, crafts and has an interest in the paranormal. When not doing this, she is spending time with her husband and friends and taking care of her eldery cat.
