What are Aligners?
Aligners are an orthodontic treatment that straightens teeth without the use of metal braces. The treatment involves the use of clear custom-made trays that cover your teeth and pull them into position. With Aligners, there are no metal brackets or wire, so there is nothing to hide your smile whilst undergoing treatment. Good oral health is easier to maintain with Aligners as you can remove them when you eat, floss and brush your teeth.
Your first Aligner consultation is free, and we use this visit to determine if aligners are the right treatment for you, and work out a treatment plan based on your requirements. Treatment time and the costs can vary depending on the specific needs of each person.
If Aligners are right for your case, we’ll take x-rays, photos and a 3D model of your teeth. These will determine how your teeth need to shift and how long it will take to align them correctly. The x-rays, 3D model, and pictures of your teeth are sent to the laboratory where your customized aligners are crafted.
The 3D model of your teeth will also allow you see how aligners will progressively correct your orthodontic issues.
How Does Wearing Aligners Work?
When your first set of aligners have been received, you’ll come for a fitting, and any necessary adjustments are made. You will wear your aligners all day, every day, except when you eat, floss, and brush your teeth. Invisalign is removable, so you’ll be able to remove them any time you need to throughout the day.
What Happens After Aligner Treatment Is Completed?
After treatment, we’d recommend that you wear a retainer. A retainer is designed to keep your teeth in alignment. Without it, your teeth can gradually move back to their former position. If your teeth start to shift, you may need to temporarily wear aligners again to reposition them. We will determine which type of retainer is best for your individual needs.
